Review of What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993) by Jonathan B — 18 Sep 2017
A warm movie even though things that are depicted in it are absolutely not that warm. But the feelings and emotions are so genuine and honest that you feel connected with this family and its problems. Acting is perfect especially, of course, the young Di Caprio and Johnny Depp.
I'm not even sure how Di Caprio was preparing for this role, he lived it. Johnny Depp took the reverse role of his another film of this year 'Benny & Joon' playing the brother who has to take care of his mentally ill younger sibling.
But this time the whole family depends on him. You genuinely care for all of them and wish them luck. Sometimes it's more than enough for a movie to be really good.
