Interesting story about interesting people.

Like it says in the tagline, this is just an interesting story about interesting people.

The Story: Gilbert Grape lives in a quaint little town... With his obese mother, mentally handicapped brother, and his sisters. Things change when two travelers, a grandmother and her granddaughter become stranded in his little hometown. It's a colorful comedy with interesting characters, and at the same time a touching drama. It's not stylish, but by no means looks bad or generic. It's a well crafted film that anyone can enjoy.

The Cast: Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Juliette Lewis... These three make the film, anyone else and this film would have been terrible. Johnny Depp is great as Gilbert Grape, the young man that has to take care of his family. He gives an outstanding performance here and makes the film a worthy rental and possibly even a purchase. There's a solid connection to be felt here, that only the most callous viewer will miss out on. Leonardo DiCaprio gives a memorable performance as Arnie Grape, Gilberts autistic brother. He gives a truly convincing performance here, this is definitely one of his best performances. Juliette Lewis is Becky, sort of a drifter, that finds love in the heart of Gilbert Grape. She gives a decent performance, but really pales in comparison to Depp and DiCaprio.

One to Five Scale: 4.

There's a lot to be seen and heard here, moving performances, and a touching story. This one is more than worth the price of admission and the viewers time.
