Review of What We Do in the Shadows (2014) by Farah R — 28 Jan 2016
When I saw the trailers for What We Do in the Shadows, they didn't really sold me on it because I didn't really find it funny or scary as I expected it to be mostly horror but with some comedy in it.
Then I realized that the movie wasn't really advertising itself as a horror film, but only as a comedy film, and what got me into seeing it, were the high praises that it got. So I got to see it, and it was actually way better than I thought was going to be.
Taika Waititi, Jemaine Clement, and Rhys Darby are really good, and they having a lot of fun in this with each other. The three of them have really good chemistry together and bring a lot of laughs. There's not much of a plot going on and was more or less just a way to introduce a bunch of skits, but it didn't really bother me as I was having a great laugh watching the skits, so I was forgiving on that.
I really like the characters in this, and I really bought why it's being filmed, which is definitely more then I can say for half the Paranormal Activity films. I was interested in the histories of the vampires, and also the werewolves.
What We Do in the Shadows is the funniest vampire movie that I've seen, and it's up there with Near Dark as one of the best vampire film that I've seen.
