I really liked this movie. It was well cast and the adults did a great job with the script but the child actors stole the show - they were very funny and delivered their lines without reverting to being "cutesy" or annoying.
It was sad, funny and very real. I don't think Billy Connolly was acting - maybe that's what made it so very real.
