Grandfather, Gordie (Billy Connelly) is said to be dying so then the 2 families decide to spend some time with him in Scotland where he lives. Visiting him especially are Abi (Rosamund Pike) who is separating with her husband, Doug (David Tennant) who have 3 children together, and have agreed to keep their divorce a secret.
