Review of What to Expect When You're Expecting (2012) by Andrea J — 19 Nov 2012
Was it a stand-out masterpiece of it's generation? Probably not, but What to Expect When You're Expecting seems like it's getting more hate than it actually deserves.
It may have used a bit too much slapstick, and one of it's main problems was trying to accomplish to much with too little to work with. The over crowded cast left little room for the audience to really connect with the characters, but the movie still managed to have a few touching scenes. The look on Lopez's face when she was told she had become a parent was heart warming, and Diaz had surprising chemistry with Morrison despite the fact that her character was one of the most unlikeable of the flick.
It bit off more than it could chew, but at least it was trying something a bit different, showing the gritty side of parenthood but maybe not in the right way. It gets points from me for the effort, and as the credits rolled I had to admit that I was entertained for almost two hours, so what else can really be asked from a Rom-Com?
