Review of What Just Happened (2008) by Kyle E — 26 Feb 2009
Where to begin? First of all, if you haven't guessed yet, if a film has De Niro in it, I'm bound to see it. De Niro is one of the few actors on my list that can sell me the world's worst movie.
The problem I have with "What Just Happened" is that the film becomes a little too pretentious for itself. It is always interesting to see the other side of Hollywood and what it takes to make a good movie, but here I just felt that parts of the film took you out of the experience.
Focusing on Ben's (De Niro) second failed marriage for longer than five minutes really depreciates the value of this movie. Also I felt the ending of the film was very scatter shot. Also if you want to see this film because of Bruce Willis, he's funny in his role playing off of his own persona, but it's not really a performance that is memorable.
Take it for what it is: if you like De Niro, watch it. If you don't, don't bother.
