Review of What If (2013) by Lukechristiansc — 23 Jan 2016
Michael Dowse's film uses the romance formula pretty well, the script by Elan Mastai (Alone In The Dark) isn't formulaic but it's very painfully predictable and eye-rolling but the script does do is make this a funny sweet rom-com with normal human behavior, it's real stars are Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan who have charming and witty chemistry and save this rom-com from being a horribly made one.
Daniel Radcliffe plays Wallace who dropped out of med school and isn't good with relationships, til he meets Chantry (Zoe Kazan), at a party where she sees him playing with magnets on a refrigerator. So after walking with Chantry at her adobe, she lets Wallace know that she has a boyfriend (Rafe Spall) why don't be friends? Wallace doesn't like the idea.
Then Chantry convinces him to be friends with her, and then he signs on for the friendship thing it's an assuming tale of 'When Harry Met Sally'. Maybe an average rom-com is OK (if it's made well) and "What If" is made well smart film, the two stars have a sparkling chemistry with one and another.
4.
