What strikes me about this movie is the contrast of performances between the two ladies. Given the history of their bitter rivalry and their well recorded vanities, it is Bette Davis who comes across as the real winner here.

Whether she was vain in real life counts for nothing as she put aside all of her personal demons to play an unflattering role, which clearly showed that art was more important and in doing so demonstrated what an absolutely astonishing actor she was.
