Review of Wetlands (2013) by Aron F — 01 Jun 2015
You'll hear it's gross and full of WTF moments. Both of which are true. But at it's core, Wetlands is a sweet coming-of-age tale that takes on society's squeamishness over female sexuality with a fearless brand of humor.
Carla Juri is brave and mesmerizing. This is a new classic. I've been hearing and reading about this film for a while now, so I was really happy to see it on here. It delivers on it's promises.
It is quite disgusting and there are many moments when you can't believe what you're seeing, but those are the things that make move watching exciting. It's not for the kids - but at the same time, it should be commended for it's unflinching look at sexuality and how the main character is not ashamed about all those things she goes through and feels that most people wouldn't dare talk about.
This film shoves it's purpose in your face - it's really punk rock. Everyone involved should be applauded for being so brave. If you like films that don't hold back when trying to say something - this one's for you.
It's a brightly colored, wild ride that will leave you completely spent. It up there with the best films of the year.
