Review of Wet Hot American Summer (2001) by Eric R — 09 Jul 2010
This really is such an instant classic. Wet Hot American Summer, somehow does such a good job of being both an homage and a parody of the genre at the exact same time. Its well written and featuring a fantastic cast of various comedic actors.
Christopher Meloni steals this damn movie though as the vietnam vet chef. His speech in the kitchen is one of the most perfectly executed comedic moments; its so damn funny. Unfortunately, Molly Shannon proves once again that she isn't funny, but pretty much everyone else is good.
I think the other reason that Wet Hot American Summer works so well for me is in the fact that it does have some surprisingly tender moments, yet there is still a thin layer of comedy involved, even in those moments.
I just think this movie is a blast and it has great re-watch value. Every time I see one of the little kids get thrown from the van I can't stop laughing.
