Co-writers Michael Showalter and David Wain's low-budget flop that somehow gained cult status years later (probably based on the ensemble of soon to be famous comedians) was a let-down after seeing the prequel mini-series and behind the scenes doc first.

The cast is, of course, much younger and thinner. The special effects are cheesy and the jokes are simply not that funny. This 1981 set camp comedy made in 2001 simply does not live up to the nostalgic gross-out comedies of decades past.

It is so out-there and bizarre that none of it rings true as a coming-of-age, rites-of-passage type summer party far from parents.
