Review of Wet Hot American Summer (2001) by Randall Q — 02 Jun 2012
Deconstruction of a genre that didn't really need to be deconstructed because it's self-aware of its stupidity in the first place. Full of "stars of the future," Wet Hot American Summer felt like a late night cable comedy.
But I don't feel like it tries to be anything more. The creators knew what they were making. It's funny if you're in the mood. Some jokes miss, some jokes hit. Wet Hot American Summer is a good background movie; a flick to have on when you don't really feel like paying attention to a movie, but want the rabble-rabble in the background.
"Herp a derp, I'm just organizing my stamps. OH YAH, derp a herp, that moovie is on teh TV, I'LL LOOKATIT.".
"LOL! THAT PART WAS FUNNY!".
...or...
"That was stupid. I'll look again after I count my stamp pile.".
