Review of Westworld (1973) by Keith T — 22 Jan 2012
Delos, with its Western, Roman and Medieval themed hotels in which you can live your inner fantasies was such a lovely idea that it of course it now actually exists in Las Vegas, also a "Disneyland for Adults".
At least two of the Worlds do, as separate Casinos, and you can do the Western bit as a day out. But do the life-like robots? If they do, they either have yet to have their first major malfunction or it has been well covered up.
This remains a fun film, but like anything involving "futuristic" technology, it has dated a bit simply because "the future" now looks rather clunky (CRTs everywhere not a touch screen in sight).
The colour seems to have faded a lot too, at least it had on the version the BBC recently broadcast. A remake, Westworld (2012) is supposed to in either development or production and should rectify that, but the IMDB has got all confused about exactly when.
