Review of West Side Story (1961) by Indi V — 22 Jun 2010
I am a huge fan of musicals, and therefore always worried when transformed on into a film. I thought West Side Story was handled with great care, and respect. It was obvious both directors truly loved the show, and wanted to do it justice.
The look of the film was very good, the choreography was excellent, God Bless those kids for what they went through. It is a great piece of Stage to Film work, that is lost a little these days. Chicago really brought back the movie musical, but nothing touches those musicals back in the day.
