Fucking Arkansas. The film is an angry indictment of the way the U.S. Court system works. It paints a moving, personal story about 3 innocents that are found guilty and ultimately when the truth comes out the Arkansas Court system blindly refuses to admit they did wrong and seems intent on keeping the 3 locked up in prison forever.
The film follows the movement to free the 3, and the many obstacles that it encountered along the way. In the end, concrete answers are found (The real guilty one is found, but I won't give away if he is jailed or not), and a conclusion is reached that is happy but also very sad.
West of Memphis is a film about how corrupt the courts can be (These people don't just lie, they directly attempt and succeed in impeding the process of justice), and it's sure to leave you pretty damned angry about how the whole thing ends up playing out.
This is not a happy film, and it's emotionally exhausting but it's still one that needs to be seen. HIGHLY recommended.
