Review of Werckmeister Harmonies (2001) by Darryl J — 23 Nov 2008
A masterpiece of a film if I ever saw one. It contains some of the most awe-inspiring and beautiful moments in film that I've ever seen. This movie quietly takes a hold of you and never lets go. Bela Tarr is a true visionary.
His long takes never seem boring or fruitless. Everything seems to only add to the incredible atmosphere and mood of the film. This film is an experience. It's just amazing to see how this film shifts and changes.
Not in breakneck ways,of course, but gradually that makes it all the more effective. It's hard to explain films like this. You simply have to watch it for yourself.
