Review of Went the Day Well? (1942) by George A — 19 Mar 2011
A highly effective piece of British propaganda from Ealing Studios made at a time when the outcome of the war hung in the balance. Incredibly violent for the time and still shocking by todays standards, where else other than John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13 can you see a young child shot? Yes some of the acting is a little ropy but that probably has more to do with a quick turn around in production.
If this isn't a highly praised piece of British film making, it should be.
