Had I seen this earlier, it would have definitely been in the mix for my top 10 of 2008. There's not a wasted shot, word or moment. Reichardt does a superb job of focusing our precarious economic and social malaise on just one down-and-out woman.
It makes you think: what would you be willing to sacrifice if you were in Wendy's situation? How would you react to such terrible luck and seemingly insurmountable adversity? Probably similar to Wendy.
She's flawed, sympathetic, and just like the rest of us.
