Review of Wendy and Lucy (2008) by Chris L — 17 May 2009
I haven't had a movie resonate so strongly with me in such a long time. It's simple, intimate, heartbreaking and storytelling at its purest. I can imagine that it can be a little bit divisive because its documentary style is very plodding and its premise seems like such a small conflict, but it is in those moments that Michelle Williams' performance, upon which the whole movie rests, and the film-makers' minimalist style spoke to me.
This turned me into a huge fan of Williams. The shots are filled with little details that hide a rich story that left me questioning and letting me fill in that story for myself with my own experiences.
There's so much that felt like I could related to in this movie, if you're a pet lover or ever thought of going on an adventure, check it out.
