Review of Wendy and Lucy (2008) by Kyungmin K — 09 Mar 2010
A nice little film about a girl driving from Indiana to Alaska, her dog and the people she meets when her car breaks down in Oregon. Even though the relationship with between the young woman and her dog is front and center, it is her encounters with the various people in the town that speak most loudly in this film.
The film doesn't seem to want to judge anyone, but instead shows how little actions, whether kind, mean-spirited or ambivalent, can affect one person so much, especially when that person's current situation is not that stable.
Watching the young woman in this film felt like watching a little boat that a child had made with popsicle sticks and glue attempt to stay afloat. You hope beyond reason that it won't sink, but in the end, you know its chances are slim.
