Review of Welcome to the Jungle (2007) by Martin S — 30 Mar 2008
Blatant "Cannibal Ferox" ripoff updated for the millenium. Amateur low-budget trash with horrible unsympathetic actors.
Two Australian girls and two American guys head into the unchartered jungles of New Guinea to investigate the possible sighting of a man long-feared dead from over 30 years ago.
Knowing full well that this movie was about cannibalism, I was kinda hoping that something horrible would happen to these four idiots pretty quickly, but unfortunately nothing really happens until about 55 minutes (!!!) into the movie, and then there's only about 25 minutes or so after that. The film-makers employ cheap shots like quick cut aways to save on FX, or shooting the more 'intense' shots at night so we can't even make out what's really happening.
You don't even really get to see anyone get eaten! The only cool scene had this annoying girl impaled on a pole (again, another OBVIOUS reference to Cannibal Ferox) but the other people die from amputations or blows to the head. I really enjoyed how this inept group kept stumbling upon random helpful people in the middle of the jungle (at day and night) who spoke perfect English. Americans, Australians... who knew that so many Westerners held strong desires to hike deep into the cannibal territories of New Guinea!
Skip this trash peeps, it wasn't worth the straight-to-DVD rental fee! Or my time!
