Review of Welcome to the Dollhouse (1996) by Ashley F — 31 Dec 2007
One of the best coming of age films ever. It is both funny and devestating at the same time... which is the genius of Todd Solondz. Like all his films, you will laugh and squirm and feel uncomfortable.
Heather Matarazzo bravely took this role at such a young age, she had to live the awkwardness she undoubtably shared with her character in front of so many people. Simultaneously, you laugh at and sympathize with Dawn.
I feel I can relate to her even though that character was not similar to me by much. She seemed so real in her awkwardness, insecurity, and confusion in the years of puberty.
