Review of Welcome to Me (2015) by Dan H — 15 Aug 2015
A woman with Borderline Personality Disorder wins the lottery and decides she wants to host her own tv show focusing on whatever she feels like talking about, welcome to the mind of a crazy person. Kristen Wiig is absolutely brilliant and fearless as Alice, a selfish, nutso-cuckoo, self-destructive woman.
She goes all out for her role (even going so far as to do a brutal and raw full frontal scene). Needless to say, this is Wiigs best performance. She is hilarious, awkward, and dramatic without ever coming across like she is trying to be.
This is a real, painful performance.. The film itself is shocking, hilarious, bizarre, and pretty damned dark too, managing to throw in some decent twists and turns throughout. While it never really goes anywhere, Welcome To Me is still entertaining.
It's like watching a fantastic trainwreck, and I mean this in the best way possible. I'd definitely recommend it.
