Review of Welcome to Me (2015) by Carlos R — 29 May 2015

#Sunday, #May24 #2015.
#KristenWiig (#SNL, #Bridesmaids) plays #AliceKlieg in this quirky funny indie comedy/drama about a woman with #BorderlinePersonalityDisorder who wins the lottery ($86 million!!!). She immediately stops taking her meds and buys her own talk show. The movie is short (just under one and half hours). The first hour is #laughoutloud funny. The last 20 minutes has a more drama than comedy and doesnâ??t match the first part in entertainment value. #Wiig is great. She also a funny supporting cast that includes #WesBentley has another talk show host, #JamesMarsden as the station owner, #JoanCusack as the show director, #JenniferJasonLeigh as a show producer, and #TimRobbins as Aliceâ??s therapist.
Alice has a heightened fascination with #OprahWinfrey (she has shelves of #VHS tapes of #Oprahâ??s shows and frequently mouths the words in excellent #Dubsmash fashion). When Alice approaches the station about buying time for her own show, they ask her what the show will be about. Her response, â??Me!â?? And, whoa, she isnâ??t lying. Alice uses airtime to talk about her disorder, her sexual fantasies, old (childhood) grudges (including reenactments), and anything else that comes to her unmedicated mind.
The first hour is worth the price of admission (or rental if itâ??s not available in your area). My score: #7outof10.
