Review of Welcome to Me (2015) by David H — 30 Nov 2015
For all its flaws, this dark comedy takes a lot more chances than any comedy I've seen in a while. A lot of people are complaining that there aren't enough plot points to make it satisfying, but since when does good comedy need a plot? Really, it's the most realistic depiction of what would happen in that situation: she gets rich, she squanders it on a weirdo vanity project, she goes back to her life as it was.
There was never any reason to believe that a person as unhinged as Alice Klieg would get picked up by network TV or find some sort of stable love interest, and it would have made the movie worse to shoehorn it in there.
This movie is just a fun opportunity to watch Kristen Wiig act like a batty lunatic for 90 minutes and was at least as good if not better on the second watch.
