Review of Weiner (2016) by Tim M — 10 Nov 2016
Sometimes you get unfettered access to someone and the perfect storm happens. 'Weiner', the story of the oft-troubled politician Anthony Weiner, starts off as an invite from Weiner as he tries for a redemptive run at New York City's mayoral race.
What happens next is riveting, enlightening, and a train wreck. Scandal mires the life of Weiner and his downward spiral doesn't conclude. The mystifying matter is Weiner doesn't tell the crew to stop filming.
He's a narcissist. He can't help himself. He's never seen a camera he didn't like. A man who's nearly impossible to root for does at times show a few redeeming qualities, but his wife and the tension between the two is chronicled wonderfully.
This will be hard to top for Best Documentary Feature of 2015 in what is shaping up to be a loaded field. FINAL SCORE: 9.8 of 10.
