Review of Weekend at Bernie's (1989) by Ralf W — 19 Oct 2007
To me, 'Weekend at Bernies' is the greatest film ever made, you can stuff 'The Godfather' right up your colon, you can vomit all 3 of the 'Lord of the Rings' films, you can burn all the copies that have ever existed of 'The Seven Samurai' for all I'm concerned, and you can excrete every single Sergio Leone/Clint Eastwood collaboration, but you can never, ever top the sheer brilliance and genius of 'Weekend at Bernies'.
The film represents to me the absolute pinnacle of what we can achieve as human beings in the film medium. In the car world you have the Bugatti Veyron, in the aviation world you have the Concorde, in the music world you have 'Revolver' by The Beatles, and in the film world, you have 'Weekend at Bernies', it is The Beatles of films, the absolute top of film-making.
I mean, you look at The Godfather, just a bunch of Italians throwing around meaningless quotes, transferred onto film-stock that looks as if it's had coffee spilled on it - I spit on that film, especially if you were to compare it to 'Weekend at Bernies'.
If I were stuck on a desert island, with only a big-screen TV, a DVD player, and enough electricity to last me a lifetime (which won't be long as I'd have no food or water), then the only film I would take with me would be 'Weekend at Bernies'.
