Review of Weekend (2011) by Kc E — 17 Jun 2013
Terrific performances from Tom Cullen and Chris New, together with a touching, real, human, profound dialogue make this a really rewarding watch. Andrew Haigh's debut feature is wonderfully conmpact, his camera often still, silently observing the characters discover each other and themselves, intercutting their nascent relationship with images of urban landscapes that made me think what was going on here could equally be happening behind any number of the tower-block windows.
But at the core is a really lovely love story between two people who appear to be solid, grounded and content in their lives, but in fact are yearning for something or someone else to connect to. This excellent film explores 48 hours of their attempts at connection. Recommended.
