(Reviewed by Juanka Peña) In the 1980's, New York will become the battlefield for cops and the Russian mafia. Bobby Green (Joaquin Phoenix) a manager of a popular club in the city, whose father and brother belong to the New York Police Department (NYPD).
Bobby , as manager, starts to have contacts with the Russian Mafia, which puts him in a difficult situation as the police tries to capture the delinquents, and they try to get rid off the police. Bobby manages one of the hottest clubs in the city, but it means that he has to pretend that he ignores what's going on in from of his own eyes with all the latent criminal activities.
At the same time, Bert Grusinsky(Robert Duvall), is the deputy chief of police, and Bobby's father. His brother, Joseph (Mark Wahlberg) has also a promising career in the police force. Bobby tries vital information from everyone, to prevent a possible armed confrontation between cops and the mafia.
The only one who knows what is happening is his lovely girlfriend, Amada Juarez(Eva Mendes). When the Russian mafia takes his father down, Bobby decides to join the force in ordert to fight the crime back and togehter with his brother take revenge and make justice for his father's death.
