Review of We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) by Jeff L — 16 Apr 2013
If you're looking for a Hollywood"this kid is evil because this horrible thing happened" filled with sugar-coated closure and catharsis, you won't find it here. WNTTAK takes the approach that some kids, some people, are born just plain rotten.
Lots of effective nightmare imagery and great performances by Tilda Swinton and Ezra Miller. There are parts where it seems like the storytellers here are trying too hard, but overall this is an almost great suspense thriller filled with irony and raises not so black and white arguments about parenting and whose to blame when a child partakes in evil actions.
