Review of We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) by Jonejarocki — 24 Mar 2021
We Need To Talk About Kevin is one of those films that one could probably have discussions for hours about deeper meanings and contexts to the work. The mental breakdown of Tilda Swinton's Eva is tragic acting at its finest, and the way the movie moves through time in a way that denies even chronological order to the events because there is no order to the events.
On the other hand, the other casting doesn't work as well. John C. Reilly is fine, but Ezra Miller plays Kevin more akin to a horror villain to the point that everyone else seems mindlessly oblivious of his true nature.
Ramsey paints the world red, and the use of color and cinematography throughout all help to elevate this movie past those minor issues though.
