Review of We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) by Poul F — 22 Jul 2012
This film had a lot of promise, but came up short. Didn't seem to know which direction to go in. The almost-constant playing of oddball songs got annoying quickly. It's like the director was trying to make sure everyone watching this film knows it's quirky AND deep! Ok, we get it.
LOVED the boy and teen actors who play Kevin. I wish the focus had been more on him. The ending made me gasp and took me by surprise. Swinton does a wonderful job as a mother who is disconnected from her troubled son, but the film, as a whole, is a bit too fragmented.
Has superb moments, though.
