Review of We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) by Mikey O — 25 Mar 2013
Agonizing, fragmented journey of a mother who must face life after her teenage son's violent school rampage. Tilda Swinton gives a tour-de-force performance as a woman racked with guilt, regret and hopelessness as she examines where things went wrong.
The aftermath is wretched. Swinton's performance is flawless and should be recognized this award season. She makes the audience feel for her character. Not just sympathy, but true empathy. Newcomer Ezra Miller (as Kevin) is enthralling.
His work deserves Supporting Actor accolades but unfortunately most of the praise will go to a deserving Swinton. Ezra Miller is so captivating, I can guarantee he will move on to stardom! The film itself is difficult to view, but psychologically harrowing.
You can't help but finish once you start. Blunt and striking, it's one of the best movies of the year...
