Review of We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011) by Astoria R — 28 Mar 2013
"We Need to Talk About Kevin" is a bleak and upsetting motion picture, largely due to the abstract way in which it is edited. There are numerous narrative jumps between the past and the present, giving us brief glimpses of what life was like before, during and after the tragedy that is revealed at the film's end.
Lynne Ramsay's harsh direction fits well with the subject material, showing us an uncompromising world that views Tilda Swinton's character as negligent even though the situation was out of her hands.
Intense and crackling with filmmaking energy, "We Need to Talk About Kevin" is one of cinema's darker offerings.
