Review of We Bought a Zoo (2011) by Mloy X — 09 Feb 2014
Benjamin Mee: You seem really calm.
Peter MacCready: Ah.
Benjamin Mee: Have you been drinking?
Peter MacCready: All night long.
Benjamin Mee: Thanks for that.
Peter MacCready: Anytime.
This was a pretty cutesy, wholesome, token family flick. The acting was alright, Maggie Elizabeth Jones who played Rosie Mee was especially adorable. When did Elle Fanning (who played Lily Miska) become hot? I mean I always thought she a cutie but in this movie was positively gorgeous and no disrespect to Scarlett Johansson but she made ScarJo look almost haggish; I mean, Elle was positively glowing through the entire film. I couldn't take my eyes off of her. Props to Angus Macfadyen who played surly Peter MacCready, he was absolutely hilarious. And Thomas Hayden Church (Duncan Mee) was cute as well. The story was good, it had everything: some funny moments, some token sentimental and touching portions, a bit of heavy drama and quirkiness but overall, nothing really unique. Another can-do-attitude flick. Yay for the power of positive thinking! It's alright but there wasn't really anything incredibly exciting about it. I mean, it's not horrible, it's just a big bowl of okay.
