Review of We Are What We Are (2013) by Eytan D — 04 Jun 2014
A remake of a Spanish film, Jim Mickle's "We Are What We Are" doesn't rely on scares to get under your skin. It creates a tremendously eerie atmosphere to go along with its suspenseful build-up, and it doesn't get gory until the end of the film.
However, that doesn't stop its subject matter from proving how shocking the horror of the situation is. The film is also very well-acted. And the best part as a whole is that it makes you forget it's a horror film and reminds you of the compelling drama it has in its narrative.
It's best watching "We Are What We Are" knowing as little as possible. In that, you will be pleasantly, and gruesomely, surprised.
