Review of We Are What We Are (2010) by Scott G — 14 Nov 2010
Catch it now before the inevitable u.s remake which probely, judgeing by the girl with the dragon tattoo, and let me in, could be very soon, as I certainly see all the signs for them to do it, the story concerns a family who have newly discovered there father has died, the wife distraught, reminds them, it was he who kept them in dead bodies everytime a ritual they have to do ocurs, and one coming up, in few days, its on the eldest son to take on the role of provider, oviously not up to chalenge the whole family take it on to get this done, the film deals well with a familys struggle with there put upon condition, its never really explained if this is in them, or simply a ritual thats been spoon fed them, so its now compulsery to do it, although both opinions are hinted at, the journey the film takes is a thoutfull one somne tense moments also, all put togetrher well, some gore throughout helps but also sounds of flesh being torn, is all thats needed, the mexican city settting adds a great deal, and performances all on fine form, the other story threaded in concerning cops is handled well also.
and plots involving other people family make contact with, a well made film, with a unsettling score, entertaining watch.
