If this movie had a basic visual style, it would be terrible. But it doesn't. So it's not. I enjoyed many of the video game allusions and the minimal references to christianity were welcomed as well.
The story was very basic, but I think that might have contributed to the movie's dream-life feel. On a technical level, I'm simply dumbfounded by most of what I saw.
