Review of W.E. (2011) by Josh C — 16 Jan 2012
Saw the movie at the London Film Festival in November '11 and think the very low rating of it is unjust. It's by no means perfect but has a solid storyline and is incredibly beautiful and stylish and feels rigorously thought through.
You feel that care has been put it into every moment of the movie. Some might say 'all style no substance' but I think that's also unfair: it's an attempt to do something interesting with the history and make it relevant today.
For my money (as a story) it achieves that far more successfully than the current, rather similar in concept, The Iron Lady.
