Review of W.E. (2011) by Crystal B — 02 May 2012
A very simple story, too simple, in fact, about the life of king Edward's wife, Wallis Simpson, as seen through the imagination of an antique collector and Wallis's biographer, with a straightforward message: Edward sacrificed his kingdom for their love, but Wallis lost just as much.
In the story there is really nothing intriguing, it's so"twistless", and the parallel modern story doesn't hide the weaknesses of the script. It's a disaster how the message, so vane, repeated bluntly several times in the film, as if we didn't get it in the film trailer.
You have to be a woman with quite a bit of imagination and your own agenda to appreciate the film.
