Review of W.E. (2011) by David P — 01 Sep 2012
Strong and passionate effort from Madonna who is definitely better director than actor. W.E. tells two different stories which are somewhat connected. The storyline which happens in this time, is less interesting and takes perfectly good time away from the real story.
Still, I think that even the less interesting story has its place in this movie, but like this it has been wasted with repetition and straggling story. The story about Wallis and Edward is surprisingly really engaging and Andrea Riseborough does a really great job as Wallis.
The whole production of the movie is just breathtakingly beautiful and so is it's score by Abel Korzeniowski. W.E. brings to the mind "A Single Man", but it lacks Single's depth and amazing storytelling.
Still, in the end W.E. is a good movie and without the name Madonna attached to it, it would have been received a bit better I believe.
