"A WORLD OF WATER".

- 'Waterworld' is a 1995 post-apocalyptic action film by Kevin Reynolds (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Tristan and Isolde). At that time it was the most expensive film ever made, but unfortunately didn't live up to the expectations. For me this movie takes me back to my childhood as I liked it. Especially the action scenes and the humoristic notes (like the old man in the oil-hole). In its cast we see Kevin Costner (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, The Bodyguard) , Dennis Hopper (Easy Rider, Speed), Jeanne Tripplehorn (Basic Instinct, The Firm), Tina Majorino (Corrina, Corrina, True Blood), Michael Jeter (Jurassic Park 3, The Green Mile) and Jack Black (King Kong, School of Rock) as the Smoker Plane Pilot. Get ready to get wet!

When the ice polar caps melted the world as we know it got flooded. The surviving humans have been scattered around the sea on all sorts of vessels or floating communities. The story begins when a drifter, known as 'The Mariner' (Costner) has come to a fearful community where he hopes to trade dirt. When he is exposed as a mutant (he has got webbed feet and gills) the people decide to drown him in their precious mud pool, but then he is freed by local waitress Helen (Tripplehorn) when the colony gets attacked by pirates, known as 'The Smokers' lead by 'The Deacon' (Hopper). Together with Helen and Enola (Majorino), the child she guards, The Mariner is able to fight his way out of the compound, making 'The Deacon' lose an eye. On the sea, he reveals that there is only room for one passenger and tells Helen that he will need to kill Enola. But then he learns that the girl was the reason why the pirates attacked. Enola has a tattoo on her back that leads to the mythical Dryland.
