Review of Watership Down (1978) by Heather H — 16 Apr 2010
An amazingly beautiful animated feature that's not just "some bunny movie".
The animation and color are excellent with beautifully detailed watercolor backgrounds. The rabbit's movements and actions closely mimic those of real rabbits. The film can be both gentle and savage at times with a huge focus on the dangers rabbits face in being prey animals. Everything from snares and cats to rival rabbits.
Although there are a lot of characters they never seem to get dull or let you down.
Perhaps aimed at an older audience this film dose not shy away from showing blood, rabbits ripped apart and plowed under in a horrifically horrifying flash back. This is not the stereotypical cute bunny movie most are used to.
