Review of Watership Down (1978) by Carl T — 14 Oct 2017
This film is an excellent adaptation by all accounts. It remains faithful to the story, characters, tone, mythology and even improves on some aspects of the book. I'm glad they gave Hyzenthlay something more to do (The book, as good as it is, suffers from a bit of a Tolkien problem.
It's very much a sausage fest). The animation is gorgeous. The voice work is absolutely excellent (especially John Hurt as Hazel, Michael Cox as Bigwig and Harry Andrews as Woundwort). I would highly recommend it even if you have not read the book.
