Review of Waterloo (1970) by Mark S — 31 Jul 2008
The first half of this film, which mainly focuses on Napoleon and the Duke of Wellington's separate build-ups to the Battle of Waterloo, takes an interesting subject and turns it into boring, almost cringeworthy, tosh.
The second half, if you can last that far, just about redeems the film, and is an impressive recreation of the battle. Fifteen thousand Soviet foot soldiers and two thousand cavalrymen are used as extras, and it looks so much better than the CGI nonsense we often get today.
