The war scenes are fucking incredible and feature none of that goddamn CGI nonsense that plagues the cinemas with elves surfing on elephants in a dull mass of computerized orcs. Napoleon is just interesting, it'd take a terrible filmmaker to make his story boring.
Steiger and Plummer (who plays Duke of Wellington) do good jobs but the build-up to the inevitable battle of Waterloo is just your standard fare. You'll never see thousands of extras or directors attempting anything like this again which is just a fucking shame.
