Review of Waterloo (1970) by Ken R — 24 Dec 2018
A brilliant retelling of the 100 Days that led to the climatic Battle Of Waterloo. Christopher Plummer and Rod Steiger are superb as the Duke of Wellington and Napoleon Bonaparte, respectively. Thanks to the help of the Soviet Army, the battle scenes are superb.
One particular overhead scene of French cavalry swirling around the beleaguered British squares is worth watching again and again. Jack Hawkins as General Picton and Dan O'Herlihy as Marshal Ney are particularly noteworthy but everyone shines in this magnificent epic.
History as it should be told.
