Review of Waterloo (1970) by Martin S — 14 Jul 2011
Rod Steiger is the definative Napoleon. He is the image that I have as I read Simon Scarrow's brilliant books - The Wellington and Napoleon Quartet. The sheer scope of the Waterloo battle, the numbers involved, and the famous aerial views of thousands of troops fighting in square formations, it's all very epic.
....something that's missing from 'Sharpe's Waterloo'.....but it's also not as personal....although hearing the subconcious thoughts of both Wellington and Napoleon is a nice touch.
This is Steiger's film and he is brilliant.....This was 1970, where's the re-make?
