Review of Watchmen (2009) by Kevin O — 30 May 2013
Zack Snyder continues to prove that too many Hollywood directors are all style and no substance. We have a generation of filmmakers like Abrams and Bay where they only know how to film music videos. In Snyder's attempt to stay faithful to the source material in a purely VISUAL ASPECT, he has created a movie that is bulky, boring, and almost painful in how simple it is.
Yeah, it all looks nice, but I think people forget that the visuals are there to tell a story, to create a theme, to resonate with something emotional and human inside us. But the only thought I have watching Dean Jeffery Morgan (or whatever his name is) jump down and start shooting people is, "Hm.
... that's cool." I blame George Lucas. That is all.
